HISTORY OF SALTHAMN Just south of the famous caves of Lummelunda is Salthamn. This is a place rich in history and during the second half of the 20th century, this was the place for a mink breeding farm. Today, the valley has transformed to a place for sustainable pleasure, food, event venues and organic gardens. With an ambition to make Salthamn a place for many to enjoy, the business and concept is constantly growing. In the early 50s, Hjalmar Raymond purchased an already existing fox and mink farm in Salthamn, north of Visby. Sustainability
SUSTAINABILITY The Philosophy of Salthamn At Salthamn we value and find it important to work to become as sustainable in our development as possible, both in regard to the smaller details as well as in the whole. We observe the surrounding nature, we learn from it, and we apply the solutions that we believe to result in positive feedback loops both for nature itself but also for the humans interacting with it. Because for us at Salthamn, humans and nature are not two separate entities, rather we believe that we human beings are an intimate part of nature itself and thus believe that when nature thrives the human beings interacting…

WWOOF
WWOOF World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms Welcome to Salthamn, a scenic place situated on the mysterious limestone island of Gotland in the middle of the Baltic Sea. Jacqueline Raymond, owner of Salthamn was born here, brought up with the wild delicacies of the sea and the forest as her pantry. The property was once the place of one of Northern Europe’s largest mink industries and is now going through an ecological transformation by the practices of sustainable agriculture with inspiration from permaculture, agroforestry and regenerative agriculture. Salthamn is a commercial enterprise where we invite guests to different food experiences, conferences, weddings and other social gatherings, retreats and different opportunities…

Garden
GARDEN Farming, Food, and Produce A tomato is just not a tomato, and a cherry is a lot more than just a cherry. At Salthamn we value and forage as much as possible from the wild pantry that nature already provides, whilst also complementing it with cultivated crops from our own small-scale kitchen garden. We actively work to expand both the wild pantry and the cultivated supply of produce so that we as much as possible can be self-sufficient on these resources. Since 2020 we have planted more than 2000 different trees and shrubberies throughout the Salthamn valley, among them wild cherry, birches, common hazel, European elder and Saskatoon. We do…
